Info on my city

Catania is located in the Mediterranean area at the base of the active volcano “Mount Etna”, in Sicily. Here you can find the most popular Sicilian beach resorts, like Taormina, amazing tours to historic sites by Greeks, Romans, and Arabs, and exquisite examples of Baroque architecture! See some pictures of Catania!

Sergio Consoli

Welcome to my webpage!

Ciao, my name is Sergio and this is my personal webpage! Welcome!
Along my website you can find more information about myself, my birthplace Catania, my interests, my research activities, and much other. I hope you will find my webpage interesting!

Laurea I was born 32 years ago in Catania, a beautiful Sicilian city at the base of “Mount Etna”, the highest active volcano in Europe. Here I studied and grew up, and in April 2005 I received the M.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Catania.
Then I moved to London, and in December 2008 I was awarded with a Ph.D. in Operational Research at the School of Information Systems, Computing & Mathematics at Brunel University, working on the NET-ACE (Network Theory and Applications to Computing and Engineering) project and sponsored by the E.U. Marie Curie Fellowship for Early Stage Researcher Training (EST-FP6). Ken and I, graduation day

NET-ACE was an interdisciplinary project of excellence recognized for its research and scholarship in Network Theory and its application to Computing and Engineering. I was also involved within CARISMA (Centre for the Analysis of Risk and Optimization Modeling Applications), an interdisciplinary research group of excellence recognized for its research and scholarship in the analysis of risk, optimization modelling, and the combined paradigm of risk and return quantification.

My general areas of research include the development and application of Metaheuristics in Combinatorial Optimization, with special emphasis for complex problems in Computing and Engineering. I have published my research in several international journals, edited books, and leading conferences in the field of my work.

Research

Lucia and I In September 2009, in the most beautiful day of my life I married my wife Lucia in my beloved hometown Catania. Then I moved to Genoa, where I started to work with Softeco Sismat S.p.A., a leading company in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) market.
On the 10th April 2010, Lucia gave birth to our son Riccardo, our jewel who makes us crazy of joy and happiness day by day. And in July 2010 I decided to came back to Sicily and I started to work for the Fincons Group S.p.A., an international business consulting firm with headquarters in Bern (CH) and Milan (IT), and a number of other branch offices located in Italy. Our jewel Riccardino!

During my experience as ICT consultant at Softeco Sismat S.p.A. and Fincons Group S.p.A., I worked mainly at the “Sistema Informativo Movimentazione (SIM)” project within the Isab S.r.l. refinery.
Isab S.r.l. is one of the largest oil refinery in the Mediterranean area and it is owned by the Italian ERG and the Russian Lukoil multinational oil companies.

European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) Afterwards, since September 2011, I am a postdoctoral researcher at the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy, working on the evaluation and development of crisis management system software within the CRITECH (Crisis Monitoring and Response Technologies) Action, Global Security and Crisis Management Unit, at the Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen.
